I just had a home inspection and the inspector found black discolouration on the sheeting board in the attic? What do I do?

Getting rid of mould will depend on where it’s located and the extent of the growth. Our main concern is identifying the cause. The common reason for mould growth in attics is improper ventilation. This can often result from blocked soffits or blocked gable and ridge vents. Make sure there are enough roof vents in the attic to allow for air to flow. Another reason can be if the bathroom vent is pumping air into the attic. Be sure to use a flex pipe that vents air from the bathroom outside of the home and not into the attic. Finally, leaks can also lead to mould growth. This can result from improper flashing around chimneys or old shingles. Call us immediately should any mould be detected.
